to convince me that the desert
floor is no place for me. After only 1 mile I found myself face
down on the trail wishing the race was over. Within the next 3
miles I reenacted that scenario 3 more times. I finally decided to
quit trying to stay with the leaders and just have a good time.
After that I had a good time and I never hit the ground again, not even
a foot. Although my time was not great, my first racing experience
was fun. After a very long 9.5 miles of rocky, sandy trails and
sunny, 90+ degree weather I pulled a 4th place in my bracket and I won
the drawing for an Oakley hat. Not a bad days work.
The race was well organized and the people are a pleasure to be
around. A big thanks to David Hamm, owner of Peyton's
Bikes, for getting the kids involved.
