In Search Of Union, TX |
KLR650 - Backroads of the Texas Panhandle - April 30, 2005 |

I found a website where people who ride KLR's are taking pictures of the bikes in front of City Limit signs, or other signs that show the city name. They then post the pictures in alphabetical order. They seem to be stuck at "U", so I went on search for Union, TX. My map shows 3 Unions, none of which are big enough to garantee the towns even exist. So off I go...
I always try to stay off the main rodes and therefore usually end out riding in sand and mud. Today it is sand. The farm-to-market rodes in the Texas Panhandle are relitivly easy to navigate and have much better senery then the highways. I carry my Texas Gizetter on all my trips to be sure I can find a backroad to travel. The first Union I came accross is located off HWY829 outside Lamesa. There was a house, but no town. The second Union is located off HWY137 outside Brownfield, again no town. This on did have a welding shop and a junk yard, but no sign.
On August 19, 2005 I finally found the REAL Union, TX. Just outside of Snyder, TX is a small community called Union. This Union is located on HWY180.
